WWOOFáil THAILAND follows TG4 weather presenter Máiread Ní Chuaig and broadcaster Tomaí Ó Conghaile on their epic road trip across Thailand. They leave the studio and venture into the world of organic farming, in search of new adventures!
The road trip begins in Nakhon Nayok, in central Thailand. Our intrepid travelers then head south to Koh Lanta, a tropical island in the Andaman Sea where they build bamboo mud huts, and deal with the hazards of living in the middle of a rainforest.
The travel buddies explore the cities of Chang Rai & Chang Mai in the far north of the country. They stay at a recovery center that practices meditation & yoga to treat drug addiction. In Pai, a haven for backpackers situated high in the mountains near the Burmese border, they spend a grueling week working with elephants.
“If you think adventure is dangerous, try routine, it’s lethal”
On their final stretch of the journey Tomaí and Máiread take an overnight train to work on an urban farm in Bangkok. They learn how to fight Maui Thai and get an insight into Thailand’s famous third gender culture back stage at a world famous ladyboy show!
Wwoofáil is in its fifth series and the popular TG4 travel show has been nominated for IFTA & Celtic Media Awards. Director Feilimí O’Connor is excited to show that people, no matter what their age, can travel and learn new skills on a tight budget:
“WWOOF (Worldwide Opportunities On Organic Farms) is a ticket to an incredible life experience. You volunteer on organic farms, learn self-sustainable skills, and receive meals and accommodation in exchange for 4-5 hours of voluntary work per day. This season the presenters face their toughest challenges while experiencing Thailand’s exotic, colorful and extraordinary culture”
WWOOFÁIL THAILAND weekly on TG4 beginning Thursday 5th April at 10:00 pm.
