For our “Wellness Wednesday” this week, I wanted to share some of my top tips for de-stressing. Whether that’s going for a walk, starting your day off with some meditation or just taking a moment to enjoy a coffee and people watch, it’s important to find some time on your own to facilitate your contentment. Here is my little friendly reminder to take a break and avoid that dreaded burn out.

Coffee & people watching

Nowadays, everything is about “grab & go” but instead of grabbing your latte and rushing on to the next task, why not sit down, relax and watch the world go by.  When asking my friends would they feel comfortable sitting in a café on their own, I was surprised at how many said no. I don’t know about you, but I love being in my own company with my own thoughts. Give yourself 30 minutes a day to live in the moment by taking in the world around you and give yourself time to be without your phone. Your mental health will thank you.

Spa day at home

Treat yourself to a spa day at home. Receiving comfort and control from a well-thought-out beauty routine is my favourite thing to do for a stress-relieving evening. Run yourself a bath, use your favourite face mask, exfoliate and lather yourself in a creamy lotion. There is nothing better than waking up in fresh sheets after a luxurious evening of pampering.

Local to tourist

Re-explore your county and visit Galway with fresh eyes. Allow yourself time to check out all the tourist spots in your local area and push yourself to experience new things. Adapt to your new “now or never” attitude. Go to that new art gallery you’ve been dying to see. Don’t wait for other people to join you, take it as your self-care break and let your mind roam free.

Get active

This can be as simple as going on a long walk listening to your favourite podcast, or getting adventurous and going for an open-water swim. Do it in your time and take it slow and steady if that’s what your body needs. Moving your body is the best thing you can do for your own self-care and wellness and helps your mind function at its’ best. I find even a short burst of exercise makes my whole day better, I sleep better and all in all, feel a little lighter towards the end of the day.

in a nutshell, take baby steps every day to show your mind and body a bit of love. Showing yourself love is the kindest and most important thing you can do for yourself and the people around you. You can’t pour from an empty glass, so fill up!
