We are halfway through the Autumn season and we have even more exciting events taking place across Galway and Ireland. From owning your own share of the first legal Galway whiskey to be produced in over a century to participating in a fun run with Croì to doodling with the Galway Cartoon Festival At Large, here are our top things to do this week and how to get involved.
Get Tickets for The Galway Comedy Festival

We deserve a good laugh after a year and a half. Calling all comedy buffs, The Galway Comedy Festival is quenching our thirst for comedy again by returning again with in person live events. The GALWAYnow team attended the launch on Tuesday night in the Galmont Hotel and Spa and we can confirm the event will be bursting with belly laughs, fun and incredible talents including Andrew Maxwell, Deirdre O Kane and Jason Byrne. With 80+ acts over 45 shows, the 7 day event is definitely not one to be missed. Tickets go on sale here on Friday at 9am.

Get Sketching With Galway Cartoon Festival At Large

From art trails to workshops, caricatures to Spanish comics, the 2021 At Large cartoon festival is sure to delight. Cartoonists from near and far will visit Galway from October 1st – 9th and interpret the world around us through their cartoons. What happens to the metaphorical butterfly when it hasn’t had a social life for 18 months. Will the world be scary and incomprehensible? Will we be overwhelmed when we have to talk to people? Or will we be more patient? During the festival, you will also be encouraged to get involved and bring out your creative side. Whether you’re Dr. Seuss or not, there’s something for everyone from drawing on walls around Galway to listening to art history walks to a workshop by French cartoonist Fabrice Matray. For further information and all events visit their website here.

Dalata Digs Deep

A group of volunteers from the Dalata Hotel Group have put pedal to the metal over the last week in aid of The Children’s Heart Foundation Crumlin. Over the last five years they have raised over €1.5 million for their charities with their Dalata Digs Deep. The brave adventurers started their journey at 7am on September 10th at Dublin Airport and have been on the road ever since, visiting several of the group’s Clayton and Maldron hotels across Belfast, Derry, Sligo, Cork and Wexford. The team were greeted by cheering staff as they arrived to the Maldron Hotel Sandy Road Galway on Sunday for a well deserved rest before heading on to Limerick. They are finishing their incredible 1,100km journey today in Ballsbridge, Dublin. If you wish to contribute to their fundraiser click here.
