This weekend, Galway will be transforming into a Winter wonderland once again as the Christmas lights are turned on and the continental market returns! With the buzz of the festive season ringing in our ears, we are sure everyone will want to partake in as many activities as possible. Without further ado, here are our top five things to get up to this weekend!
Light-Up Galway 2018
On Friday, November 16th from 6 pm, Galway’s Christmas lights will be officially turned on around the city! Beginning at Ravens Terrace in the West End and moving through Cross Street, Quay Street, Shop Street and Woodquay before finishing in Eyre Square! Make sure to head along and watch the city be transformed into a Winter wonderland!
The Sound of Music at Town Hall Theatre
Running from Thursday to Saturday at 8 pm – with a matinee on Saturday afternoon at 3 pm – one of the world’s best-loved musicals will be performed in Town Hall Theatre. Featuring memorable songs such as My Favourite Things and Do Re Mi, the endearing storyline is set in the beautiful Austrian landscape that still enthralls people decades later.

Galway 2020 Information EveningOn Friday and Saturday a free exhibition will be presenting some of the exciting project developments and giving a taster of what’s to come as Galway gears up for its designation as European Capital of Culture in 2020 to the public. The free events take place from 1 pm – 5 pm and include live music and question & answer sessions.

Mack Fleetwood at Monroes Live Venue
On Friday 16th from 9 pm, the ultimate Fleetwood Mac tribute band Mack Fleetwood will be taking to the stage of Monroes to bewitch their audience with authentic renditions of all your favourite tracks! If you were left disappointed after Fleetwood Mac’s Irish tour date sold out in record time, this is the perfect substitute!

Galway’s Continental Christmas Market Returns
From 6 pm on Friday, Galway’s hugely popular Christmas market will return! This year will feature amusement rides including a 32 metre high Big Wheel, Helter Skelter and the traditional Carousel! Once again, Santa’s Grotto will be run by local charities and the popular Bier Keller will be playing host to various events throughout the Market’s duration. We’ll see you there!
