Hip hip hooray, it’s Friday!

We hope you all survived the last few weeks of madness that were the Galway International Arts Festival and last week’s Galway Races. Summertime in Galway is always a thing of beauty. And lucky for us, it’s not over yet! Here we have the top 5 events to keep you occupied this weekend!

1. WILD ATLANTIC CABARET 

9 Dominick Street Upper, Galway

Breda Larkin is a comedic farmer from county Galway and Laura Lavelle is a burlesque chanteuse Limerick City who are coming to the Róisín Dubh with their two-woman show on Friday 9th August 2019. Their show promises titillation, cantation, and elation with occasional special guests! A very unique way to spend your Friday night. This electrifying performance takes place upstairs at Róisín Dubh. Make sure you’re there early as seating is limited!

2. TINY TRADERS VILLAGE  

Tiny Traders

Tiny Traders Village Market returns this Saturday, 10th June at 10 am. The focus of the market is providing space and resources to vendors of all sizes, where they can connect with the public in a welcoming and positive space. At Tiny Traders, they emphasise eco-friendly packaging and processes and champion their range of conscious food vendors, from local grass-fed meats to a multitude of vegan and gluten-free offerings. Tiny Traders is an amazing community of vendors and a perfect place for a Saturday shopping trip in town.

3. GALWAY CLINIC – STREETS OF GALWAY 8KM 2019

2019 sees the 34th edition of the famous Streets of Galway 8km road race, organised by local club Galway City Harriers. Since its inception in 1986, the event has grown into one of the most prestigious road races in the country, yet remains true to its original motto of Sport for All, as many locals and visitors take on the event year in year out. The race starts and finishes in the Claddagh area of Galway city. The course winds a path on the roads and streets through the city-center and out into the Salthill suburbs, before returning on the roads along the coast-line to Southpark in the Claddagh where the finish line is located. The event will bring 3,000 participants onto the streets of our city and suburbs into what is a fantastic event and evening in the city. The races take place on Saturday, 10th August 2019. 4. ORBIT OPEN MIC NIGHT

The Orbit Open Mic is back this summer for sessions of live music and poetry in the Galway Arts Centre. It’s the perfect place to practise your performance skills, test out new material or just go to watch all the amazing performers. There will be plenty of room on the guest list, so message the facebook page for more information or to sign up. If not, a walk-in mic will be a part of the night as always. 5. DUKE SPECIAL

Duke Special
Duke Special

Duke Special will play The Black Gate on Sunday, 11th August 2019. By nature, Duke Special is a curious person. He is curious about theatre, books, music, poetry, art, love, life, redemption, death, 78RPM records and most recently, gardening! All of this is evidenced by the variety of musical adventures throughout his career. As well as releasing records and touring the world, his creative talents have seen him involved in a diverse array of projects. In 2017, Duke Special released his latest studio album, ‘Hallow’ – a beautiful collection of songs entirely based on poems by Belfast poet Michael Longley. His poetry is full of gentleness, honesty, mischief and love, and peppered with a cast of artists, animals, flowers, friends and long forgotten soldiers.
