After the sartorial blackout on the red carpet at the Golden Globes, it was refreshing to see the bold colour, prints and fabrications return for the 2018 Screen Actors Guild Awards. With so many wonderful looks to choose from, take a look at these top trends from the night and the fabulous stars who rocked them. Read on to see who made the cut!
While the Golden Globes red carpet was awash with top to toe black ensembles in support of the Time’s Up movement, the SAG’s saw a return to feminine tones and ladylike glamour with a far softer colour palette dominating the glamourous evening. From peach toned nudes, to baby pink right through to bold cerise, there was no rose toned hue left unworn on the SAG Awards red carpet. Modern embellishments such as feathers, sequins and metallic touches saw these looks elevated from run of the mill ball gown to a true high fashion status.
Fluid metallics featured heavily on the catwalk for Spring/Summer 2018, so it was no surprise to see this trend being championed during awards season. Celebrities opted for a mixture of shades, from classic metallic tones such as silver or bronze to bold, bright blues and yellows. Stars kept hair and makeup simple and effortless and allowed their outfits to do the talking. Bonus style points to Lupita Nyong’o for her feathered hemline and Susan Sarandon for those super slick shades.
Amidst the flowing silks and sculpted metallics, these actors stepped it up a mark and really stood out in their eye-catching printed gowns. From florals to polka dots to out of this world astrological prints, these dresses brought a modern twist to red carpet dressing. Whilst these styles could be quite polarising, we salute their utter bravery to work these styles on the red carpet, oozing head turning style appeal whilst doing so.
Let’s Hear it for the Boys
The men on the red carpet can often be overlooked and overshadowed by the cascading, head turning looks donned by Hollywood’s leading ladies. But let’s not forget our male counterparts, who, although it may not take them quite as long to prep for such events, still seriously ramp up the style stakes. From Hollywood’s newest recruits to its longstanding legends, these men know how to hold their own for the fashion police!
