As Met Eireann advise of a strict Orange weather warning in place, and up to 130km/h winds blowing a gale outside, we may be forced to spend a little more time than normal indoors today. With trees falling and debris flying around, it is strongly advised that if you must venture outside your front door, do so with caution. We have taken the liberty of compiling a list of some of the best ways to relax at home and stay free from boredom – while we wait for Storm Ali to pass.

When you’re forced into a “storm day”, the first item on your agenda should be getting straight back into your pajamas. Fleece PJs, fluffy socks and a woolly dressing gown is the official uniform of the day, so don’t break the dress code.

Do your best to find an external source of heat. This can vary from a hot water bottle to a warm bowl of soup to snuggling your dog for warmth (always a recommended remedy to chilly conditions!). Grab all the blankets you can carry and tuck yourself in for the evening.

Netflix is always going to be a high priority for a duvet day! Whether you’re in the mood for a rom-com, a horror or just straight up bingeing on old episodes of Friends, relaxation will be at an all-time high.

Pick up a book, scroll on your phone, break out your Wii or Playstation! Make use of your duvet day because it is highly likely that normal programming will resume tomorrow.

Now, go and put the kettle on!
