Many people associate wine with special occasions and happy memories and there is no occasion more special than your wedding day. Bringing your own wine to your wedding is becoming more popular among couples as it allows for more control over the quality of the wine that will be served.
Two key things to keep in mind when selecting wines for your wedding day are quantity and budget. Once you have an idea of how many guests will be attending, it will be a more accurate reflection of what your budget should be for wine and how much of it you will need.
If you are getting married in a hotel or a catered venue, there may be a corkage charge involved so it is important to factor this into your wine budget.
Once the numbers have been crunched, then the fun starts! J&C Kenny have an onsite tasting room conveniently located in their offices in Oranmore.
Couples can go to the tasting room and have a personal consultation with their dedicated wedding wine expert, where all aspects of the day are discussed including your chosen menu to ensure the food and wine complement each other. You can also view their extensive collection of organic, vegan and low sulphite wines allowing you to cater for the needs of all your guests. It is a good idea to bring the wines along to your menu tasting to ensure that the food and wine go hand in hand on the day and that one is not overpowered by the other. It is also nice to get friends or family involved as some outside opinions can be beneficial.
Often, people’s biggest worry with bringing their own wine is will they have enough? The rule of thumb to follow when deciding on quantities is that you will get five glasses from a standard 75cl bottle. A general guide would be to allow a half bottle per person (plus a little extra!) J&C Kenny also have a huge range of prosecco brands to suit every taste and budget. A standard 75cl bottle of prosecco gives six glasses and the rule of thumb on this is to allow for 1.5 glasses per guest. Their sale and return basis offers great peace of mind to couples knowing that they can overestimate to ensure that all their guests have enough wine, safe in the knowledge that any unopened bottles can be returned for a full refund.
The most important thing to remember when choosing wine and prosecco for your wedding day is to enjoy the experience. This is one of the most fun jobs of planning your wedding so relax, unwind and get ready to start celebrating!
