”The planning of our big day began at the end of February 2020. Within two days, we had organised all of the major components such as the church, our venue, the photographer and videographer. Things got off to a very smooth start but just three weeks later the whole world went into lockdown and our plans quickly came to a standstill. The worst part of it all was that my fiancé Pete was now stuck on the other side of the world in Australia and I was stuck in Ireland. The next 6 months were spent desperately trying to figure out how we could be reunited and wedding planning was very much put on hold.

It was definitely stressful not being able to confirm any details or plans because of the pandemic but at the end of the day, we just wanted to get married so we stayed with our original date of December 27th knowing that there was no guarantee of the number of guests we could have with us. I was so lucky to be able to get my dress in between lockdowns six months before the wedding. The girls in Truly Bridal were so helpful and my dress even arrived earlier than expected, which was amazing considering the short timeframe.

By September, Pete finally got an exemption to travel home from Australia and we were reunited! Planning however, didn’t get any easier as we had to constantly readjust our guest list, re envisage our hen and stag parties and frequently change details depending on what coronavirus restrictions were in place. We made peace with the fact that our wedding wasn’t going to be the occasion we had always dreamed of. In saying that, we kept a positive outlook and just reminded ourselves that the most important thing was that we were getting married. After being separated for so long we were just so grateful to be together!

Despite all of the changes and uncertainty in the lead-up to our wedding, the day itself was a dream. We were so relieved to have made it to our planned date without having to cut our guest list to six! Jacinta, Louise, and all the team at Loughrea Hotel and Spa went above and beyond throughout the whole planning process to make our day magical and our guests commented on how lovely and intimate the day was. It was truly the best day of our lives.”
