Meet In Galway, a local voluntary marketing organisation, are delighted to announce that they have been successful in their bid to become ‘Galway Convention Bureau’. The initiative, which will promote conference and event facilities across the city and county, is coming to life after almost four years of hard work to establish Galway as a Region Convention Bureau to rival Cork, Kerry, Shannon Region and Dublin.
Since their inception in 2011, Meet in Galway has facilitated, developed and implemented a sustainable tourism model on behalf of the industry as well as enhancing the image of Galway as a business destination to visit, thus promoting economic development across the county.
International conference business handled by Meet in Galway has doubled to €3m since 2015 and Meet in Galway forecasts reaching €4.5 million for 2017. It was indeed these impressive business wins that showed the potential for Galway to excel in the lucrative business tourism market. The value of the average business tourist is now worth almost three times the value of a traditional leisure tourist.
From multinational companies and international associations, to small firms and businesses in their infancy, the Meet in Galway team have helped many organisations to plan memorable and successful events as well as providing support with bidding, familiarisation trips, conference organisation, accommodation and transfers.
Last year Galway was ranked in the Top 20 European destinations for conferences and conventions by the International Congresses and Conventions Association (ICCA) as Galway Convention Bureau continue to actively sell Galway on sales missions across the UK, Europe and the US. The group will support and work alongside Fáilte Ireland and the National University of Ireland Galway
Conference and Event Centre to secure more international conferences and to bring Galway tourism to the next level. The sky’s the limit for Galway as it continues to frame a thriving metropolis on the edge of Europe, carefully balancing the charm of this ancient city, an exciting calendar of events and an ever-growing corporate message coupled with the unique energy, stunning backdrop and remarkable capabilities of our great county.
