“It’s a bit of a taboo, and I think we would all be better off if that wasn’t the case.”
Radio personality, music lover and fashion enthusiast are just some of the ways to describe Today FM host, Louise Duffy. Claire O’Farrell caught up with the Mayo native to chat about life as a presenter on Today FM.
Louise’s friendly west of Ireland intonation no doubt adds to her radio show’s growing popularity. The show, Lost In Music, recently moved from the afternoon to evening slot, which Louise says has really suited her. “Daytime radio requires a very different format. Your job is to pick people up and get them through their last few hours at work. With that there is a constant requirement for content outside of music. It was slightly restrictive to my presenting style, it wasn’t a perfect fit.” Her new slot from 7-9pm is more in line with her personality. “In the evenings, there is so much more flexibility. Lost In Music is very relaxed but it has a nice flow to it. We have been doing it for the past six months, so we’ve got into the groove now.”
Her love for her career is supplemented by her passion for music and the positive working environment at Today FM. “There is just such a good atmosphere in there so I love going into the office. Dermot and Dave are in the morning and Al Porter is in at lunch, so it’s a really vibrant place to be. Predominantly it’s the love of music; finding music and presenting is something I have always enjoyed, that’s what I am most passionate about.”
