Lisdoonvarna Matchmaking Festival has been running since the 31st of August and will continue on until the 30th of September. It is Europe’s biggest singles festival and attracts people from all over the world looking for love, fun and a bit of ‘craic’.
The third weekend of the festival kicks off Friday the 14th of September. With live music from some of the best names in traditional country music, speed-dating and sessions in the pubs the weekend is set to be a huge success. The festival itself is 160 years old and couldn’t be more different from the online dating websites of today. When the festival started, people travelled from far and wide. “People thought nothing of walking a good distance if it meant a chance of finding romance” says Willie Daly, the matchmaker.
Willie Daly, the matchmaker, is a third generation traditional Irish matchmaker and has matched over 3000 couples in his lifetime. Willie says that “matchmaking is in [his] blood and [he is] fortunate to have inherited the skills of [his] father and grandfather. Like them, [he] knows instinctively what makes a good match. The traditional tools [he] uses are intuition, subtlety, and an understanding of human nature”.
“Love is waiting there for everyone, it’s there just waiting to be found. When it is, it’s a lovely feeling.” Matchmaker, Willie Daly.
The festival is for everyone, from 18 to 80, everyone is welcome at Lisdoonvarna Matchmaking Festival. Tickets can be purchased from the Matchmaking website at https://www.matchmakerireland.com/
