with Saibh Egan

Saibh Egan is a practising Yoga instructor based in Galway City. Turning to yoga after a spinal injury, she found that movement, breathing and being in full conversation with her body and mind helped her manage and learn about both her injury and recovery. After leaving the corporate world to embark on her journey as a yoga instructor, she has never looked back. We chatted with Saibh about her inspirations and love of Galway.

Describe yourself in three words:

Passionate, Attentive, Patient.

What is something our readers might not know about you?

I doubt myself sometimes. Even the most confident people experience moments of doubt. That’s the balance in the world, the everyday contrast, the Yin and the Yang.

What is your proudest accomplishment?

My proudest accomplishment is my Life. I’ve had five careers all of which I’ve been passionate about. I’ve gotten myself from being in so much pain that I could barely walk to moving freely in the world in my body, I’ve travelled across the world to volunteer and I’m proud of and passionate about the work I do in my community.

Who is your biggest inspiration?

Anyone who fights injustice, in any small or big way in the world. From well known activists to everyday people who endeavour to right a wrong and make the world a better place. People who keep campaigning for what they believe in, even after all the knock-backs, knock-downs and systemic pushbacks.

Tell us something you love about Galway:

I love the contrast between city and county and how available that is to us. I can be in the city and within 30 minutes, dip my toes in the ocean, walk on the beach, adventure through the forest or get lost with the dogs in the bog.

Teaching classic Hatha Yoga, Vinyasa, and Yin Yoga too, Saibh’s classes are a safe space for those looking to reconnect with their body and their mind. She believes in a non-dogmatic, non-judgemental space for yoga which in turn leaves lots of room for connection. Saibh is currently teaching Yoga classes at Snap Fitness Eyre Square, FITTSteps Training in Craughwell, though Online groups and 1-to-1 sessions and will also be offering outdoor Yoga in the city centre this summer too!
