There’s something so refreshing and feel-good about making your own smoothie at home. They’re packed full of nutrients and vitamins, making it easy to hit your five-a-day target while also tasting delicious. So whether you want glowing skin or a protein boost for your workout, here are four super smoothies to kick start your day.

 

For Glowing Skin – The Green Goddess Smoothie

This delicious smoothie is a must have for health and fitness guru Rosanna Davison. The chlorophyll, a.k.a the green pigment in green vegetables, has almost an identical molecular structure to human blood. Which helps to oxygenate our blood and body cells, and the more cleansed and oxygenated our blood is, the more nutrients get delivered to our skin, hair and muscles for boosting health and beauty, giving you a glowing look!

Serves: 2

Prep Time: 5 min

Ingredients

  • 200g organic baby spinach
  • 1 ripe banana
  • 125g fresh blueberries
  • 1 tsp fresh root ginger
  • 2 tbsp fresh lemon or lime juice
  • 1 cup of pineapple chunks
  • Half an organic cucumber, chopped into chunks
  • 1 tbsp fresh mint leaves
  • 4-5 drops of liquid Stevia (optional)
  • 4 ice cubes
  • Cold water, to blend

Method

  • Rinse the spinach and cucumber well.
  • Add the water to the blender first, followed by the spinach, cucumber, banana, pineapple, blueberries, mint, ginger, lime/lemon juice and ice cubes.
  • Blend well until smooth and creamy. Taste and add Stevia if desired.
  • Garnish with blueberries and serve chilled in a tall glass.

 

 

For Muscle Gain – The Protein Chocolate Coconut Smoothie 

This smoothie creation was invented by Rozanna Purcell, aka Natural Born Feeder, is packed full of sweet chocolate and coconut flavors and makes for the perfect summer smoothie. The protein contents are great for helping to convert fat to muscle, which also makes it a great post workout treat.

Ingredients

  • 500ml coconut milk
  • 1 coconut fulfil bar
  • 1 large frozen banana
  • 1 scoop chocolate whey protein

Method

  • Blend all the ingredients in a blender until smooth.
  • Serve and enjoy!

 

 

For Your Immune System- The Strawberry and Peach Smoothie

This delicious smoothie by Keelings Strawberries is super helpful to your immune system as the fruits contain vitamins like B6, manganese, potassium, and antioxidants. Bananas are also very high in fiber which helps your digestive system. As well as that, peaches and strawberries may even improve your heart health. This is a smoothie for the overall well-being of your body!

Ingredients

  • 12 strawberries
  • 2 Ripe bananas (peeled, sliced and frozen overnight)
  • 2 Peaches
  • 240 ml Almond milk
  • Ice cubes (optional)

Method

  • Cut the tops of the strawberries. Then cut the peach to remove the stone – keep the skin on though.
  • Place all the fruit in a blender with the almond milk and ice and blend until smooth, depending on how runny you like it you might like to add more liquid, either more almond milk or a little water. Then sip and enjoy!

 

 

For Energy – The Creamy Blue Smoothie

This smoothie by Sweetly Salted Berry Ella tastes just as good as it looks. This recipe is a personal favourite of hers, and we can understand why. It contains spirulina, a superfood that comes in the form of supplements or powder but is made from sea algae. These, combined with the frozen bananas and mango, are sure to give your body that extra boost of energy it needs in the morning.

Ingredients

  • 1 ripe mango
  • 2 ripe bananas
  • 1/2 tsp blue spirulina
  • 1 banana, 1/2 a kiwi and blueberries for toppings (optional)

Method

  • Cut up the mango and bananas and freeze them overnight
  • Add the frozen fruit and the half a teaspoon of the blue spirulina to the blender
  • Blend till smooth and creamy
  • Add your toppings!
