This June 20th is Ireland’s Summer Solstice – the longest day of the year. For many of us, the
long, bright stretch in the evenings means having more time to do things. For people living in homelessness, these extra hours of sunshine are just more time to fill until it gets dark enough to sleep. More time to worry, more time to feel sad, more time to feel alone.
There has never been a more pressing time in our community to stand together with our most vulnerable. The Covid-19 pandemic is putting so many already vulnerable people at particular risk, including those who are homeless, and those who are at risk of falling into homelessness due to a sudden reduction in income. They urgently need your support to help safeguard their services for those who to turn to them for help in this critical time of need.
Galway Simon are calling on the people of the West to Dip & Donate what they can during the weekend of June 20th. Sadly, due to current public health guidelines, their much-loved Dip at Dawn event can’t happen as planned this year. However, instead of coming together at dawn on Ladies Beach, they are calling on you to take time out of your longest day to help someone facing homelessness on theirs by taking a dip and donating what you can at galwaysimon.ie If you can’t get to the beach, you could always take your dip in a pool, pond, lake, river, or even bath. Be sure to call on your friends and family to join you too!
100% of funds raised will go directly to Galway Simon Community who provide housing and support services to those experiencing, or at risk of homelessness in the West.
Make sure to share your photos/video of your dip and tag Galway Simon at:
