Spread a little festive cheer by decorating your home inside and out with the latest Christmas style trends. Sarah Petersen of Dan-Éire Designs shows us how a combination of traditional and modern Christmas decor adds just the right amount of holiday cheer to any room.
Usually, Christmas conjures up images of brightly coloured lights with red and gold colour schemes. This year, trends are pushing towards good old-fashioned greenery.
Natural wreaths, garlands and ivy vines should be on your foraging/shopping list this December. Team these with other natural materials such as pine cones, berries, flowers, mini baubles or star decorations and you’re on to a winner!
It’s easy to make your own wreaths with some florists wire and a creative touch.
Combinations of natural materials, greenery, branches and neutral colours create a cosy and homely festive feel. Candles are key here – different shapes, sizes and colours – to create a feeling of hygge in the home. Use more unusual materials that are not typically used at Christmas time – straw, wool, rattan and feathers – for something different to really make your home pop.
BLOOMING CHRISTMAS TREE
Flowers are surely the last thing that comes to mind when you think about decorating your Christmas tree, right? This year, there’s a definite trend towards adding blooms and flowers (real and faux) to the tree. Faux blooms work particularly well here as you don’t have to mind them. Combined with some beautiful ornaments, fairy lights, gold ribbons and a big star on top, your tree will be a unique, eye-catching, Insta-worthy focal point in your home this Christmas.
A STAR IS BORN
You can create a wonderful centrepiece decoration by simply hanging some oversized star ornaments at different heights over your dining table. This will tie well into our other trends and would suit someone who loves their Scandi-style Christmas decorating. Stars and greenery work particularly well together. Just add a few nice ribbons to hang the decorations and you’ve got the perfect centrepiece.
