Autumn Wardrobe Essentials

As small changes begin to creep in to the weather, it’s got us thinking that we need to start preparing our wardrobes for the inevitable hail, rain and cold once again. Many of us think of autumn is a time to cover up everything including our sense of style. As if! If anything, more layers give us more opportunities to show our personality. Here are a few of our autumn must-haves to give you all the fashion inspo you need this season.

Leather Boots

These boots are made for walking. Rubber knee high boots will be pounding the streets this month as a perfect “step up” from the traditional Doc Marten or combat boot we have seen over the last few years. Embrace all the weather has to throw at you from puddles to chilly winds with these weather proof, hard wearing yet fashionable boots. From knee-high to ankle to sock, play around with different heights, styles, colours and materials to ensure you have a boot for every occasion.

Blazers

Dominating the fashion scene last season, blazers are sure to stay. Versatility is this items strength. A sophisticated yet chic piece that can be worn from the office to about town while effortlessly dressing up the classic ‘jeans and a nice top’ look. Pinstripe, bold colours and daring patterns are just some of the versatile looks that a blazer can bring to your classic neutrals. Cardigans 

Chunky, chic and cosy, the cardigan is a staple piece that will never go out of fashion. The cardigan can be everything from an adaptable comfort item to a statement piece depending on how you style it. Layer with your favourite loungewear set to snuggle up during cold evenings or make your summer outfits last longer by pairing with a light summer dress or skirt. Ireland has always been renowned for great quality knitwear and up and coming Irish designers are continuing to cement that reputation.

Shorts in autumn. I admit sounds a little extreme but paired with some black tights, ankle boots and knitwear, it allows for the ideal autumnal aesthetic whether you’re grabbing your favourite coffee, curling up by the bonfire or taking a walk through nature. An easy transitional item that can be dressed up or down, allowing for both comfort and style.

Shirts

Shirts, (especially plaid) are plentiful in shops and Instagram feeds everywhere. Styled correctly, a classic shirt is the perfect item to pull off the ‘effortless effort’ look. Pair with bike shorts, an oversized t-shirt and chunky jewellery for a relaxed street look or with a great pair of jeans and structured blazer for a smart casual look that can never go wrong.

You’re not Irish if you haven’t heard the line “90% of heat is lost through your head”. Keeping that in mind, dress smart with hair accessories. Headpieces can pull the final outfit together and add a little extra personality. Add a beret for elegance or a chunky headband for some chic cosiness.
