This year it’s all about healthy, glowing skin! With more of a focus on skincare than ever before, we’ve rounded up 7 of the hottest skincare trends of the moment to keep your skin looking radiant and fresh.
  1. Slugging

Slugging is a Korean beauty trend that has been made popular through social media. This viral skincare trend involves coating your face in petrolatum or Vaseline after your evening skincare routine. This can produce changes in the skin barrier permeability, boosts hydration and can increase absorption of your skincare products. Slugging is suitable for all skin types but best results can be seen on  more dehydrated and drier skin. While it is not recommended to do every night, doing it after exfoliation and on top of your serums will be beneficial for deeper penetration.

2. Double cleansing

Double cleansing is a skincare trend that you may have already been doing without realising. This process involves removing makeup and dirt with an oil based cleanser before moving on to a water based cleanser afterwards. This technique ensures that all the makeup and oil is removed from your face. Cleansing this way will help you clean deeper into the pore and remove impurities preventing breakouts and dull skin.

3. Led light mask

This skincare trend will have you feeling like you’ve just stepped into a sci-fi movie in your own home. LED light masks are taking the internet by storm. Normally performed in an aesthetician’s office LED light masks and devices are best used to help stimulate collagen production and kill the bacteria that can cause acne breakouts. At home masks are becoming more widely available and are a cheaper alternative to regular visits to your aesthetician.

4. Spf

Everyone should know by now that SPF is your ultimate skincare ‘must have’. If you don’t wear spf every day (whether it’s sunny or not!) then you should start now. Even on a cloudy day UV rays can still penetrate your skin.  From a young age it is important to use spf daily to reduce signs of aging and protect your skin. If adding in a new product to your skincare routine is one step too far or you’re worried about photo flashback try using a moisturiser with an spf built in.

5. Retinol

As you begin to age retinol is an important skin care step to add into your routine. Retinol is arguably the beauty ingredient of the decade – it’s one of the most potent anti-ageing forms of Vitamin A. Not to be confused with retinoids, which is the umbrella term for all the Vitamin A compounds and derivatives — including retinoic acid and retinol. If you use it regularly, retinol visibly evens your skin’s texture while minimising the appearance of pores.  Retinol stimulates the natural collagen production of the skin, making fine lines and wrinkles less noticeable.

6. Chemical Exfoliants

Gone are the days of scrubbing your face with a washcloth or using a face wash with beads to exfoliate. Chemical exfoliants are the new way forward. AHA stands for alpha hydroxy acid. AHAs are water-soluble acids made from sugary fruits. They help peel away the surface of your skin so that new, more evenly pigmented skin cells may generate and take their place. After use, you’ll likely notice that your skin is smoother to the touch. These products should be used once a week maximum to remove dry and dead skin and keep your face looking rejuvenated.

7. Icing your face

Facial icing is exactly what it sounds like, the process of applying ice to your face. The icing and cooling technique of using a chilled cryo tool to massage the face can help reduce swelling and puffiness as well as lessening the appearance of under eye bags and brightening your complexion. Icing constricts the blood vessels in your face, which can minimise the appearance of pores and wrinkles, stimulate collagen production and toxin elimination, making you look more radiant overall.
