The Art in Mind Gallery & Studio Launch will take place on September 2nd from 6pm until 10pm in Kilkerrin Park 3, Liosban Industrial Estate. Art in Mind is Galway’s new artist-led non-profit organisation dedicated to promoting wellbeing and mental health through creative practice. Art in Mind spans several buildings in the Liosban Industrial Estate, composed of offices, studio space and a gallery.
An array of events will take place indoors and outdoors including a Gallery launch featuring an exhibition by Creative Director of Art in Mind, Glenn Gibson titled ‘The Observer & the Observed.’ Glenn is a professional Irish artist creating & teaching wire sculpture in Galway who is renowned for his Connemara hawthorn sculptures.
The Studio, located next door to the Gallery will showcase work by 15 studio artists. Artists will be on hand to discuss their work, their goals and their experience with Art in Mind. What began as a modest workspace/gallery of 70m2 has expanded to over 400m2 and offers studio spaces for up to 20 artists with support services to assist them in creating and sharing their experiences with the community at large. Julia Dunin, Ronan Fahey, Niamh Daniels, Gala Tomasso, Jane Hanberry, Carly Mucha and Connie Goss are just some of the names who will be displaying work on the night. Creative workshops including wire sculpture, painting & drawing will take place in the studio. Panel talks & live music will also run throughout the evening.
Art in Mind’s goal is to engage people with no previous experience to create art through artist-led hands-on workshops and talks. Monthly artist-led public events aim to bring the conversation surrounding mental health issues to the fore and engage the wider society. The space is host to an ongoing program of workshops, events, launches and talks for artists and the wider public.
Art in Mind is a grassroots movement for artists by artists, demonstrating the value of mental well being through creative practice. Given the nature of COVID-19 restrictions the event will also be broadcast live from artinmind.ie and all social channels.
