Catriona Hanly A/W 2017 – A Noir Romance
Typically, Autumn/Winter sees the return of heavier fabrics and more sultry colour palettes that lend themselves to the colder months of the year. Function, for the most part, takes precedence over style. For London based Irish designer Catriona Hanly, however, A/W has much more opulence to offer. Why not have a little fun? This season her work finds itself on the elegant side of whimsy. A gentle juxtaposition of light and dark, of sweet and bitter.
Most notably, Catriona embraces something not often celebrated at this time of year: the blouse. She keeps things fresh and fanciful for A/W with a collection of statement blouses, all of which exemplify her unique eye for rich fabrics, delicate textures and classic colour. For this designer, her inspiration always comes from the fabric and across her collections Parisienne themes emerge. The blouses, among which the Tino, The Marie and The Chantelle are included, are composed of chantilly lace and silk organza with intricate detailing, adding an air of energy and vibrancy to what can often become a muted wardrobe. With this collection, Catriona Hanly continues to subvert expectations, lightening the mood with delicate details and feminine flourishes. At the same time, there’s a daringness to this collection that keeps things ultra sophisticated. From red chantilly lace rose details to layered candy-floss-like ruffles this collection is a sartorial feast for the senses.
Elsewhere, Catriona Hanly adds a luxe edge to the two-piece suit. Again, the designer toys with expectation, offering luxurious tuxedos that are better suited to a red carpet than the boardroom. One of her personal favourites from the collection is her two-sleek black and white tuxedos. The ultimate style statement this season.
Adored by sartorial mavens and stylish celebrities alike, Catriona Hanly’s new collection is in stores now. Enjoy the new collection photoshoot, shot on location at Kilronan Castle in Ireland. Worn by Aoibhinn Garrihy, Aisling O’Loughlin and a host of Irish style icons, Catriona Hanly is stocked in the Design Centre, Havana Boutique and Emporium Kalu. She also takes orders that are available countrywide.
